In Their Own Words
Each review below was received between May and June 2025.

Retired civil servant · Petaling Jaya
After years of uncertainty about my government pension, I finally have a clear picture. Ahmad took the time to go through my records properly — something the pension department never quite managed to explain to me. The written summary he produced was the first document that actually made sense of my situation.

I came in not sure whether I even had a dispute — I just felt the numbers did not add up. Nurul was patient and thorough, went through my EPF history statement by statement, and identified a discrepancy I had not been able to put my finger on. The process took about three weeks, which was reasonable.

My pension appeal had been rejected twice before I contacted Naungan Law. Krishnan looked at where the earlier applications had gone wrong, rebuilt the documentation, and submitted a fresh appeal on my behalf. The matter was resolved four months later. I wish I had come here first.

I was trying to claim my late husband's government pension survivor entitlement and kept being redirected from one department to another. The team at Naungan handled all the correspondence and managed to have the matter resolved without me needing to travel to Kuala Lumpur at all. Very grateful.

The matter took longer than I initially hoped — about five months — but I was kept informed throughout, which made it easier to be patient. Ahmad was straightforward about the timeline from the start rather than making it sound simpler than it was. That honesty was appreciated.

I had been getting a reduced pension for three years before I understood it was a miscalculation. Nurul explained the entire basis of my entitlement to me, submitted the correction, and helped me understand what to expect from the back payment. The process was calming rather than stressful, which I had not expected from legal work.

Unrecorded Contributions Over Six Years
Challenge
A former private sector employee approaching retirement noticed that his EPF statement reflected lower balances than he expected. He had worked for a company that had changed ownership twice and suspected that contributions from one period were unaccounted for.
How We Helped
We obtained the client's full contribution history, cross-referenced it against his employment records, and identified a 26-month period where contributions from one employer had not been credited. We prepared a formal submission to EPF with the supporting documentation.
Outcome
EPF acknowledged the discrepancy and credited the missing contributions. The corrected balance reflected approximately RM 14,200 in additional funds. The matter was resolved over a period of about 14 weeks.
"I had assumed this kind of thing would take years. The fact that it was sorted in a few months, and that I had someone who knew how to speak to the right people, made all the difference."

Pension Reduced After Administrative Reclassification
Challenge
A retired civil servant found that her monthly pension had been reduced following what the department described as a reclassification of her service grade. She had received no advance notice, and the department's explanations were difficult to follow.
How We Helped
We reviewed her service history, the original pension award letter, and the reclassification notice. We identified that the reclassification had been applied retrospectively in a manner inconsistent with the applicable circulars and submitted a detailed appeal to the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam.
Outcome
The original pension amount was reinstated. The client also received retrospective payment for the months during which the reduced amount had been applied. Total engagement period was approximately five months.
"Nobody in the department was willing to explain what had happened in terms I could understand. Krishnan went through it line by line and then wrote to them in the proper legal way. It worked."
Case Study 03 · Survivor Entitlement · Sabah
Survivor Pension Delayed Following Spouse's Passing
Challenge
Following the passing of a retired federal government officer, his widow found that survivor pension payments had not commenced after the usual period. Repeated enquiries to the relevant department produced varying responses.
How We Helped
We engaged on the widow's behalf remotely — she was based in Sabah and unable to travel — compiling the necessary documentation, writing formally to the relevant authority, and following up until a response was received and acted upon.
Outcome
Survivor pension payments commenced. The arrears accumulated during the delay were also settled. The full process required about three months from our first engagement to resolution.
"Being able to deal with everything by phone and email was important. I could not manage a trip to Kuala Lumpur during that time. They handled it completely on my behalf."
